GGGGrandfather of Bringham Young

Edmond (Edmund) GOODENOW Capt(1180) was born in 1611 in Dunhead, St. Andrew, Wilts, Eng. (1181) He came to New England on the Good ship Confidence with his wife Ann and sons, then under 4 years, John and Thomas. He died on 5 Apr 1688 in Wayland, Middlesex, MA.(1182) He was buried in Old North Cemetery.(1183) He emigrated. All dates are also within "Goodenows" published by the Goodenow Family. Spellings are extremely variant. According to this extensive genealogy , members of the immigrant family that came to America are: John, Thomas, Edmund, Ursula and Dorothy. John died leaving only female heirs. Edmund remained in Sudbury and Thomas rem. to Marlboro, one of its original founders. The father, Thomas lived and died in England.

Goodnow Mountain and Goodnow River in the Adirondacks, Goodnow, Illinois and Goodnow Hills in Washington state stand as testimony to their migrations westward.

Edmund, apparently left England for religious persecution, being fined there for non-conformity. He was active in Sudbury affairs as one of its founders and was Captain in King Phillips War. He as buried in the Old North Cemetery.

Edmond, John and Thomas, all from different locales in England are identified as original grantees and settlers of Sudbury (NEHG 60:357). Edmund is among those listed as Freeman, May 13, 1640 (NEHGR 3:187) in the account by Luther R. Paige. Parents: Thomas A. GOODENOW and Ursala (Ussilah) FAYME (HAYNES?).
