The BUFFALO CREEK and LITTLE BUFFALO CREEK in 1866

The routes of these and other waterways from the

1866 Buffalo City Atlas overlaid on 2007 Google Satellite Map

The 1866 Buffalo City Atlas shows a number of tributaries and waterways associated with both Little and Big Buffalo Creeks.  These waterways were subject to flooding, and in that floodplain was fertile ground which provided a good environment for farming in this area of Buffalo.   The topography of the area also favored the railroads as they paralleled the waterways, providing level ground on which to build their roadways.  After seeing the routes these waterways took it is no wonder this became the railroad center of Buffalo.
