I was just listening to KLUC airchecks this past weekend from the early 70's,
including the 1971 jingle package, homemade at United Recording Studios, which
was in the same building as the KLUC studios at 3135 Industrial Road. (The Package
was performed by Benny Hester.) What a treat to hear them again and to reminisce about the great "24-hour Music Festival" that was KLUC in the early 70's. Hits during the daytime hours (but not teeny-bop) then a gradual move to progressive rock during the night. ("Spirit In The Dark")
Morning drive was PD Pete McCoy (later replaced by Tom Robertson), mid-days
were hosted by Penrod Rideout, Jack Abell handled afternoon drive, I did six-to-midnight as well as being the MD, and graveyard was Bill Robbins, later replaced
by Bob Roberts.
I worked for the Phalen's from 1970-1973, then went on to KVEG FM-92 (at the
Castaways Hotel), where I worked with Len E. Mitchell. Then on to KFMS/KBMI
and later KUDO, which was in the Marina Hotel and later moved to the Tropicana
Hotel Country Club. Wow - a lot of moves and gobs of memories!

I remember Keno 1460 with it's studio at flamingo and paradise painted red white and blue in the 70's. I also remember some of the DJs like John Midnight, Dan Gates and I remember the 45 RPM records on dowels stuck in the wall. Numerous pennies on the massive tone arms. I had access to the production studio and would spin records at an early age.
KORK was on Sandhill, KRAM was on Desert Inn upstairs, and Len E Mitchel was playing "The Best On Record" at KRGN. Len's format would eventually move to KVEG and I rolled reel to reel tapes at home that I have transferred to DVD Audio. Concerts at the Convention Center Retunda that looked like Lost in space's Jupiter 2 spacecraft, I even was a stagehand for the Santana/ Maxine Nightengale concert there. What fun it was...

Wendy--i worked for Jerry Roy from 73-74 at KENO as announcer and ad rep with Scott Gentry and Sam The Cougar. What a legendary radio station. No one under 50 can imagine how exciting Vegas was in the late 60's and 70's. Love to hear from anyone who lived there then as I worked for 5 Vegas stations from '68 to '74. I'm at 810-624-2436 Dan McPhail

i'm Dan McPhail, in Vegas radio from 1968 at KVEG to 1974 at KENO. DJ and salesperson. Worked for Don Gilday at 102 FM then KRGN. Vegas radio was fresh and wild in the 60's and 70's, the town a small wonder it'll never be again. Would love to hear from anyone in town then. I also worked at TV 5 KVVU (then) in Henderson.
Wonderful memories of that time. Anyone can call me at 810-624-2436 (one Vegas radio story: Wynn Stewart, country legend, as a KVEG dj and owner of a club on Boulder Highway the historic Nashville Nevada Club

Can't wait for this site to be back up! KENO AM was the station I listened to as a young teen and we were madly in love with the DJ's then! Used to call all the time with requests..haha
Back then Vegas was so different. My first concert I went to was at the Ice Palace off Sahara and it was 3 dog night. We used to hang out at the Teen Beat club on Paradise.
Miss those crazy days...Now my best memories.
