Listening to Las Vegas radio since 1963 and being employed in broadcasting since 1971, I have accumulated quite a bit of information on the relatively brief broadcast history of this once dusty town in the desert. There have been many colorful individuals who have worked behind and on the microphones.

After only a year on-air I was promoted to production director of KLAV by general manager Bob Blum. Using an Ampex 350 and razor blade I assembled the station’s imaging elements. In these days before multi-tracking I would assemble the work parts on cart and reel to reel and lay down the finished products “live”
Rod McKuen interview 1974
I was working weekends at the time and received a call from Rod McKuen who happened to be driving to Vegas and heard me play one of his songs on the air. He stopped by and I interviewed him on the air…my inexperience really shows on this!
